Downtown G’boro hotel gaining steam

Posted January 6th, 2010 at 9:35 AM by SamH

Local businessman Randall Kaplan is now in on the proposed taxpayer-financed downtown Greensboro hotel, which supposedly would lend —emphasis on the word ‘lend’—- the project more credibility.

This project is gaining steam, and it’s going to take courage on the part of City Council members to vote against it. Guarino says the N&R is lining up in favor, despite editorials expressing skepticism, the most recent being editorial page editor Allen Johnson’s column on the fate of the Royal Villa, the luxury hotel that is now a “condominium development” and was highlighted in council member Robbie Perkins’ presentation on hotel crime during last night’s meeting.

Make sure to check reader comments below the N&R article; taxpayers understand what’s going on here. The question is whether or not the City Council knows that and will respond appropriately.
