An incentive is an incentive

Posted August 19th, 2009 at 7:28 AM by SamH

Former N.C. Supreme Court Justice and incentives opponent Bob Orr is speaking out against Guilford County Commissioner Steve Arnold’s plan to set aside $1.3 million for tax breaks to small businesses that expand their tax base.

Orr “all of these incentives are unconstitutional,” whether they’re for small businesses or large companies like Dell and FedEx.

Here’s problem—- and it’s common to all forms of government —– that commissioners would provide the tax incentives to small businesses and continue to dole out economic incentives to large businesses —– like Dell and FedEx — that promise to bring jobs to the area.

There’s just never any give-and-take where government is concerned.
