Transgender issues at Salem College

An unidentified student at all-female Salem College student is undergoing ‘gender reassignment surgery’ and wishes to continue living on campus as a man.

A 2005 Salem graduate sent an e-mail to fellow alumnae alerting them of the situation, and evidently one of them sent the message to the Winston-Salem Journal. However, a college spokesman confirmed there indeed was a student undergoing gender reassignment surgery, but declined to identify the student for privacy reasons.

You see where this is going —- a possible challenge to Salem’s female-only status.

Unfortunately, this post is simply untrue. Alumnae had been told soem time before Ms. Webb, c/o 2005, started spreading alarmist theories that the school was considering a trans policy. In fact, it is blantantly untrue that the college ever confirmed the existence of a Salem student who is currently transitioning. They declined to talk about such a student existing OR not existing in order to protect the privacy of any and all students.
