Kville to fight eminent domain lawsuit

Town officials say they will fight a lawsuit brought by Joyce Development Corp. over the condemnation of land for an N.C. 66 connector to Kernersville Medical Center:

“Minutes matter when you are driving to a hospital,” said Dawn Morgan, the mayor of Kernersville. “It is important to have a direct route. It is important to have second access because anything can happen —– an accident can block a road or a tree can fall.”

Or a city can put traffic calming device in the middle of the road. But I digress —- does hospital access justify taking of land to ‘serve the public purpose?’

Feds cite Wake Forest Baptist for monkey uprising

USDA has cited Wake Forest Baptist Hospital for allowing a female monkey to escape and roam Forsyth County for 11 days back in July.

Baptist says it’s fixed the problem — “staff at the primate center installed a chain with a secure latch to the center’s outside corridors to prevent further escapes” —- and the research center will appeal the citation.

As you can probably imagine, PETA is not appeased and says it will “be keeping our eye” on Baptist.
