Greensboro police officers resort to chemical measures to disperse a crowd at Center City Park on July 4th.
The N&R reports three teenagers were arrested.
Update: This morning’s N&R write-up. Police ask the Jimmy John’s sub shop on Elm Street to close for 20 minutes in order to deal with ‘shirtless youngsters’ saying ‘they were going to fight and demanding quick service.’
Greensboro Mayor Robbie Perkins —who found the noise from Greene Street intolerable— said he saw no signs of a disturbance when he returned to his Center Pointe condo overlooking Center City Park around 11 p.m. Interesting because the N&R reports GPD deployed the tear gas at around 10:45 p.m.

The school was a bad idea for many reasons. Finding a suitable 100-plus acre tract in what will soon be the most industrialized part of Guilford County was nearly impossible. The model of building high schools with stand-alone stadiums and athletic fields is reaching the point where it will be financially difficult in Guilford County when land prices increase.
….The chickens were coming home to roost for the school board, which was paying the price for lax oversight of its building program, political promises made without thought, a lack of the skill needed to generate public support and a plan for the new high school and middle school that most real estate agents would have told them would have taken the luck of the gods to pull off.
Indeed this would have been one of the most expensive schools ever built in the state, if not the most expensive.
